Saint Jerome by Albrecht Durer

The habit of careful study of the particulars of nature, characteristic of the Late Gothic artists, is translated by Dürer into a special sharpness of the model’s characteristics, which has received a truly realistic orientation.

This is clearly seen in the portrait of his father in 1497, where old wrinkles and wrinkles of the face and flabby neck, liquid strands of graying hair, heavy folds of simple cloth clothes were masterfully transferred. All this is necessary for the artist to characterize this particular artisan man who lived a hard life, which put a seal of fatigue on his face, but retained the vividness that is felt in his gaze.
