Moonlight by Edvard Munch

Moonlight by Edvard Munch

Landscapes, devoid of human footprints, there is also a Munch of his era of “storm and onslaught.” This is one of them. Of course, this is not a realistic landscape, everything is stylized here – the moon itself, and the trees, and the coastline, and especially the lunar path, which stretches along the water surface. Copies of this lunar path are still present in a number of Munch’s works.

“Moonlight” is a strange and undoubtedly mystical image. Such images are enough in the works of Munch of this period. All of them are united by one feature – they seem to be “non-peaceful and fantastic, but they live, nevertheless, according to the laws of the real world, becoming an integral part of it. This technique makes these pictures Munch even more attractive.
