Landscape by Paul Gauguin

Like a fruit plate, the cloth of Paul Gauguin appeared before the audience. Surroundings of Arles – a small town in Provence – forever froze bright contrast spot of pure colors of apricot, green apple and ripe plum. Arles! How many landscapes the author devoted to this place. 1888, a wonderful and touching period of Gauguin’s life in a province in the south of France, became very prolific and in autumn a colorful one.

The proposed landscape is one of many narratives of the artist’s pacified painting. It has a calm technique, not fluid, but original, saturated and contrasting. Someone will find the image stylized and schematic. So it is, but this is not a tribute to the perception of Gauguin himself, but rather a fashion for rebellious moods in the art of the XIX century with an intricate name “post-impressionism.”

The landscape of the Field is similar to many works of this period. It is simple and straightforward, although the criticism of the time was much about the writing technique. But, despite the primitive letter with the arrangement of objects conditionally, as in the sketch, the idea of the work is understandable. It’s nature. In the close interweaving of plant elements and the presence of man, an architectural object was found in the image. He contrasts with the general plan not only with the calmness of the palette, but also with straight lines and their sharpness.

The layout of the elements of the landscape is such that each of the plans has the right to independent existence, be it a trio of silent people, or a dome on a hill in the distance with a spruce, or a massive tree with a crown that is on the right. According to the picture you can write separately taken stories, scattered, like the story itself.

However, it is worth paying attention to the color solution. It is so luscious that it looks like a basket of fruit or sweets, if you want. The life of opposite colors, as the basis of the impressionistic trend, perfectly suits Gauguin’s brush. This is a very profitable “chip” of the current that has been subjected to widespread criticism. You can force to play simple stains of sketches drawn by crowns and grass in contrast, deepen the shadow of the spectrum of cold colors in combination with clean warm colors.

By the direction of brush strokes, the choice of a brush is allowed to diversify the various components, for example, pine and birch branches. Paul Gauguin offered a catchy canvas with a simple narrative of a French town in a sweet color on motives of the red autumn.
