Autumn leaf fall, walk by Vincent Van Gogh

While in the hospital, Van Gogh aspired to draw as much as possible. He made copies of the works of other masters, depicted the interiors of the hospital, but the biggest source of inspiration for him was the hospital garden. With the onset of autumn the garden became unusually beautiful, and Van Gogh wrote a sketch after a sketch. Autumn was the most favorite season of the year, the artist treated her with tremendous trembling.

In this work the garden is depicted from a rather high point of view. That is why the trees look like they are cut by the lower and upper edges of the canvas. This technique just allows you to focus attention on the main semantic center of the picture – a path with a person walking calmly along it. His figure shrank slightly and slouched, and this further emphasizes the sad mood of the autumn landscape. But this sadness is light and calm, it is full of quiet pacification. The gray sky reflects on the wet paths, the wind tears off the leaves, but this does not stop the artist from admiring nature, finding in each of its manifestations something beautiful.

The picture is made in pure warm colors. It is a sketch that partially remained unfinished. Here and there you can see the uncoated sections of the canvas. Details of the landscape remained unprocessed and not traced, and this gives the picture a resemblance to a child’s drawing.
