A path in the public garden in Arles by Vincent Van Gogh

Parks and city gardens were for Van Gogh the place where a person can rest from the bustle of life, immersed in a world of peace and quiet. He often portrayed such places, living in noisy Paris. But in Arles, where life was much more natural and closer to nature, the parks sometimes fascinated with their beauty. In this picture, the artist captures the corner of the Arles public garden.

The garden appears in the picture as a small island of peace and beauty. Closed composition contributes to the transfer of the atmosphere of coziness. Emerald tree crowns with a solid wall surround the path with people walking along it. Van Gogh lovingly writes out lush foliage of trees and needles of spruce.

The landscape is remarkable for its bright brightness and rich color. Against the background of the blue sky, the first yellowness of autumn trees glows. The sun’s rays shine through the crowns, making their emerald color even brighter. On the path, light creates a game of a wide variety of colors and shades – from gently lilac to bright yellow.

In the distance, the artist placed the walking people, their gait as calm as the surrounding nature. Van Gogh depicted the beginning of the fall, his favorite season. But the mood of the landscape is by no means autumn. On the contrary, it is filled with an atmosphere of quiet joy and cheerfulness.
