The Swing by Pierre Auguste Renoir

Writing painting “Swing” is dated 1876 year. The work of art was painted by the famous French artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The picture has a size of 92h73 cm, and with a frame 111h92 cm.

In 1877 the painting was presented at the 3rd Impressionist exhibition.

In the same year the picture has found its place in the collection of Gustave Caillebotte. He was a Marshal of France, as well as an artist. After Gustav died the picture was owned by the state. Since 1894 the painting was given to the Museum, in the Luxembourg Gardens. In the Louvre painting it came only in 1929. The gallery Jeu de Paume “Swing” exhibited in 1947. From 1986 to the present day is a work of art in the Museum d’Orsay.

As is known favorite artist’s model was Renaura Marguerite Legrand. It is assumed that she posed for the famous master work “Swing”. The painting depicts a lovely young lady, who stands on a swing while she grabs the rope hands in order not to fall. She is dressed in white with a blue dress with flirty bows.

The face of the woman, and back to the viewer is a male. Apparently, they are about something talk. At a young man wearing a blue jacket and a hat of straw. Behind them, in the background animated conversation leads a small group of people walking.

On the left side of the canvas shows another man, peeking out from behind a tree. And next to him the little blond girl. Which is a genuine delight contemplates charming lady, riding on a swing. Pure sight of the child gives a certain charm of the story.

Renoir did not stint on the bright colors and generously gave them the canvas. The painting is executed in blue, green and white scales. Through the trees the sun’s rays make their way, while adding the story briskly. They lay down on the figure of glare on their hats and clothing.
