The stream of St. Trifon in Pechenga by Konstantin Korovin

Despite the severity, the North is not empty. In all northern works Korovin depicts either people or traces of human activity. And in Winter in Lapland and in the Murmansk coast the artist depicted the villages, and in the landscape of the Stream of St. Tryphon in Pechenga, the viewer sees a boat pulled out of the water and a monk figure near one of them.

Among other works of the northern cycle this work is perhaps the most rich in coloring, however, and there is nothing bright or sonorous here. As in the Murmansk coast, the winter time of nature is not depicted. But the snow is not melting in the North everywhere. White cap he remained lying on the rocks, standing out against the background of gray-green grass.

In some places, the grass becomes brown, forming rusty spots. The stream casts a steel shine, the snow glows in the shadows. And although all the colors sound muffled, without disturbing the general smokiness of the sketch, their combinations are very beautiful and melodic.
