The Last Snow by Konstantin Korovin

The Last Snow by Konstantin Korovin

State Memorial Historical, Artistic and Natural Museum-Reserve VD Polenov, Tula Region. The last snow, like many of Savrasov’s landscapes, is full of charm and intimacy, discovered in the unspoiled corner of the Russian village. Involuntarily recalled the excellent sketch of Savrasov in the late 1870’s – Yard. General and in the mood, and in building the composition – chamber, intimate. Korovin is also interested in the problems of pictorial embodiment of the subtlest nuances of lighting, the vibration of spring air, but he left in this respect beyond his teacher.

In the Last Snow more color shades; bold comparisons of warm and cold tones, which cause a sense of the March day, give out in this work of the future colorist. The desire to convey the phenomenon of life as seen by the artist’s eye, in the entire visual truth of directly reproducible forms, colors, illumination, desire, so characteristic of the generation of Korovin, is quite fully expressed already in his first works.
