Stored in the London National Gallery picture Wheat field with cypresses was written in 1889, when the artist was in the hospital.
In this work, as in other canvases of this period, Van Gogh uses blue and yellow colors, working this palette with subtle, almost graphic strokes. The picture creates the impression of an amazing riot of colors, incomprehensible force brought to absolute harmony.
