Who knows, for what reason, the child was in a strange family, most likely, he had to tear off his own little bed from deep need. But the boy is clearly loved here, and he does not feel like a stranger at all.
His own mother came to see his son, and, perhaps, to pick him up, brought him a present, but the child is frightened by an unfamiliar woman and clings to the one who raised him to his mother. The artist very vividly showed the feelings and emotions of the heroes of the picture: his own mother was both excited and confused that her son was not running towards her, he was pushing away from her. The adoptive mother is also excited, she is frightened and wants to know why she came, do not you want to take away the child that became her own? The same question is asked by the husband, the adoptive father. And the nanny is trying to calm the mother who has come.
The room is flooded with bright summer sun, but drama. played out before our eyes, does not at all correspond to the joyful state of nature, at the same time it is a sign of hope that everything will settle down, people will understand each other if they love this glorious little boy.
