After ostrosotsialnoy subjects in his work Vasily Grigorievich Perov wrote his work “Botanist”. Finally, after experiencing disappointments, the author returns to the beautiful nature. A series of his paintings from this period are called the “hunting series”. The painting “Botanist” written in 1874 becomes a continuation of this series.
The painting shows the figure of a man. He is of medium height. He is wearing a black hat and discreet clothes, a white shirt and black regular pants. She emphasizes his social position. In his hands he holds some kind of a cane, and on his back is a box, already filled to the top with herbs. The man is depicted in a semi-sitting form. He very carefully considers some kind of plant. Perhaps he is a scientist, a teacher of natural sciences, or simply interested in rare species of herbs.
Loneliness of a man in his long walk brightens up his faithful friend – the dog of a hunting breed. Since Vasily Perov loved hunting, he also conveyed his love for these animals on canvas. The view of the dog is very focused, it clearly performs its duty as a guard. While the owner is studying an interesting plant, he carefully examines the territory.
Also, the author has paid much attention to the surrounding nature. He depicted an ordinary field, but at the same time he traced every blade of grass and tree so that it seems that they are alive. Everything is depicted in light golden tones, only where dark green breaks through anywhere. Fluffy clouds float in the bright sky and the rays of the setting sun make their way.
The picture is filled with simplicity and ease. A beautiful day landscape with inconspicuous figures of a man and a dog inspire memories of the village. Give warmth and cheerfulness. It attracts and surrounds with heat.
