The Crucifixion by Dionysius

The Crucifixion by Dionysius

This icon is considered the pinnacle of the master’s work, it was written in 1500. The icon is permeated with a sense of “supernormality” of what is happening: it is created by singing lines that delineate the elongated, subtle silhouettes of the saints.

Christ, crucified on the cross, rises above all, and the angels seem to float in the heavenly space. And the cross of Calvary also reigns in the space of the Universe. And the whole icon gives rise to an image of dispassionate, overcoming suffering, striking in spirituality, in purity.
