The blue day. Rostov the Great by Konstantin Yuon

Early spring. Rostov the Great, the Kremlin, the domes of churches, the walls of the Kremlin. The horses on the square near the Kremlin walls, still harnessed to the sleigh. They struggle with difficulty over the spring slush – not completely melted snow mixed with mud.

The day is warm, the blue sky is reflected in the puddles, and the walls of the Kremlin and houses, not soaked in snow, are painted with the pink color of the morning sun. And despite the mud and slush the picture creates a cheerful spring mood. And although the artist called the painting “Blue Day”, it could also be called “The Pink Day”.
