Already during the life of the Ruysdael, his “waterfalls” were very popular, and many mediocre artists warmed their hands on the master’s name, depicting “similar” landscapes and then passing off their work as the “canvas of an incomparable Ruysdael”.
In this picture, by the way, there is also the fake signature of Reisdal, probably put by the owner of the picture. But art historians have unmistakably determined that the landscape really belongs to the brush of the great Dutchman.
