The year of the creation of this picture is the year of the turning point in the artistic fate of Klimt. Pseudo-realism is overcome before our eyes, giving way to “visions.”
In this case, this is a “vision” with an antique echo; The plot, decided in a romantic way, “throws” us into the world of ancient Greece. At the end of the XIX century, many tried to write something similar. Klimt distinguishes from them the use of golden spots, turning the picture into a real sacrament.
Later, the artist created the second and third “series” of this work. One of them was called “Music II” and was lost during the Second World War. Another was a color lithograph, which was illustrated by one of the numbers of the journal “Ver Sacrum” in 1901.
