Bouquet of chrysanthemums by Pierre Auguste Renoir

Bouquet of chrysanthemums by Pierre Auguste Renoir

The famous French impressionist artist P. O. Renoir can hardly be called a master of still life or landscape. These genres have never occupied the dominant positions in his practice. Rather, Renoir, having studied the market conditions well, was aware that a masterfully painted bouquet of flowers would sell well, which means that the pleasant could be combined with the useful, which he did several times. Many works of Renoir of this kind settled in private collections.

Flowers are designed to please the eye, to deliver aesthetic pleasure. Among them are those that are especially loved by us. These are, for example, chrysanthemums. Up to late autumn, they warm their hearts with the memory of summer, of quiet evenings, of walks with their beloved or beloved. Chrysanthemum bush is sung in one of the most popular Russian romances.

Renoir did not skimp on the bright colors, like his fellow impressionists. They experimented a lot and successfully with light and color. In fact, they discovered the true meaning of both for painting. The colors are mixed on this colorful collage: white, red, yellow, orange. It seems to be nothing special – and the flowers look as if they were alive! And what a volume vase was chosen for the bouquet, but some colors did not have enough space in it – so the artist painted them next to the vase. As they say, do not disappear so much beauty! ..
