Preserved about a dozen, religious paintings Holbein. Most of them relate to the early period of his work and bear a clear imprint of study from the father of the artist, Hans Holbein the Elder, to the extent that researchers have not yet come to a consensus regarding the authorship of individual works.
At the same time, the more mature religious painting of Holbein reveals the strongest influence of Italian Renaissance painting – a vivid example of this is Holbein’s “Last Supper”, almost repeating the composition of the same name by Leonardo da Vinci.
