The Lamb of God and the hymn to the Elect. Engraving by Albrecht Durer

Engraving “God’s Angel and a hymn to the elect” – an illustration to the 7th chapter of the book “Revelation” of John the Theologian:

In the upper part of the engraving on the rainbow stands the Lamb. Around him are four six-winged animals and 24 elders, one of whom gathers the blood of the Lamb into the cup so that the righteous can wash their clothes.

In the center, the righteous in white robes with palm branches in their hands worship God and the Lamb. And they cried with a loud voice, “Salvation to our God sitting on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshiped God, saying: “Amen!”
