Picture of Vittore Carpaccio “Saint George, striking the dragon”. The size of the picture is 180 x 226 cm, canvas, oil. The second cycle of paintings, which is no longer so large, also consists of nine parts. The best of them – “St. George, striking the dragon” and “Saint Jerome in the cell.” The work presented here is the second version of the picture “St. George, striking the dragon.”
The first was written for Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni in 1502-1507. Throughout his creative activity, the artist often turned to biblical subjects. Bribing naivety, sincerity of perception and unconditional skill of the painter make his works so attractive, and, thanks to scrupulousness in detail, and historically valuable.
