St. George and the Dragon by Giovanni Bellini

Picture of Giovanni Bellini “Saint George and the Dragon”. The size of the picture is 40 x 36 cm, wood, oil. Apparently, around 1475 Bellini traveled along the Adriatic coast, where he became acquainted with the art of Piero della Francesca. Impressed by the painting of this artist, “The Coronation of Mary”, he wrote a composition on the same subject.

In this work of Bellini for the first time under the influence of painting by Piero della Francesca, the decisive role is played by the light: all the figures are immersed in a light environment, the color changes – the colors become warmer, the light is warm and transparent. The painting by Giovanni Bellini “Saint George and the Dragon” is the limit to the altar “Madonna of Pesaro”.
