The legendary Saint Veronica looks older, in sorrow preparing to kneel before the face of Christ. A piece of transparent air silk with her headdress, by which she wiped Jesus’ face while carrying the cross, became a masterpiece of the artist. He looks like a thin fabric with a white border on her turban.
The “Holy Man”, a wonderful imprint of the face of Christ, does not coincide with the lines of folds, but seems to be a vision arising before matter. The ironed folds of this section of fabric, which are not visible on the headdress, are depicted by the artist specially to emphasize the supernatural nature of the miracle.
