Portrait of a young man in a beret by Lucas Cranach

The portrait of a young man in a beret was painted by the German artist Lucas Cranach in 1521. The size of the picture is 30.5 x 23 cm, wood, oil. The portrait is attributed to the middle period of the artist’s work. In his mature years, Lucas Cranach created a number of portraits, including “Portrait of Schering”, “Portrait of a Lady”, “Self-Portrait.”

To the best of them belongs “Portrait of Father Luther”, in which a vivid image of a man with a characteristic expressive face is given. The artist was able to perfectly mark an intelligent, somewhat gloomy look, fashion large features of an old face, convey his wrinkled skin, and rare gray hair. The portrait is dominated by a graphic manner of writing, a delicate, sinuous outline.
