Bernard is an acknowledged master of neo-impressionism and a theorist of symbolism. The artist traveled a lot around the countries of the East, which could not but reflect on his work. In the picture “Nude with a bracelet”, oriental motifs are easily discernible: the ornament and the color of the pillow give out the Arabian style, and the small elements on the green blanket covering the model resemble a ligature.
The only decoration of the nude model is a luxurious massive bracelet, densely strewn with colored stones. An elegant hand with long thin fingers is deliberately set forward – the beauty as if offers the viewer to appreciate the charm of the outlandish jewelry.
