Farewell by Ivan Aivazovsky

I would like to name the painting “Scarlet Picture” … Early morning. But the sun had already risen above the sea, and the whole sky and the sea were flooded with a golden scarlet sunlight. And only the edge of the sea at the sandy beach casts a gentle azure light. There is a sailing ship in the distance, and a lonely boat moored at the shore. A young couple is saying goodbye to the shore, a child is hugging their mother.

The man, apparently, is leaving on the ship to which he will be taken by boat. Despite the impending separation, the picture does not cause feelings of sadness, anxiety. The scarlet color does not look alarming, on the contrary, adding a gentle golden tone to the crimson creates a mood of hope for a joyful encounter…
