Artist John Howe in his memoirs says that in their house on the wall of the living room hung a pencil drawing of the Castle of Schellon near Lake Geneva, made by his grandmother at age 19, long before she became the director of the gymnasium. More in her life she did not write a single picture.
The family of John Howe lived financially rather tightly. Despite all the efforts of the mother, her teaching activities could not guarantee the young man education in a prestigious educational institution. And the school itself was always different, the place of residence was often changed and, as a rule, these changes occurred at school time and the educational process was inevitably interrupted.
In the picture of John Howe “Escape from Ora” a huge eagle, flapping its heavy wings, rushed to flight through the night sky. The moon illuminates the high walls of the castle and the old wizard with a long gray beard on the roof of the castle.
