Apollo in the forge of Vulcan by Diego Velasquez

Apollo in the forge of Vulcan by Diego Velasquez

The painting is a story from Greek-Roman mythology. Apollo came to Vulcan, god and blacksmith affairs, to report that his wife, the beautiful Venus, was untrue to Vulcan. I must say that Vulcan was a lame and ugly, and Venus, his wife, constantly cheated on her husband.

The artist depicted the whole plot as the ordinary life of ordinary people. We see a smithy, we see a Spaniard at work. Instead of the cave of Vulcan – a beautifully illustrated hearth in the depths of the smithy. Masterfully transferred a bright flame pink-orange-yellow color.

Even flickering sparks are visible. the general tonality of the color is light brown tones, shades of yellow, and also brown and red – in the image of the cloak of the sun god, the sheet of iron, red-hot, hot flame. In contrast to the smithy, the sky, Apollo’s wreath are depicted in a range of shades of grayish-blue colors.
