The work was first presented to the public at the exhibition of “Wanderers”, with whom the master collaborated. The picture was enthusiastically accepted by criticism, which, once again, marked the author’s unrivaled mastery in the depiction of light. In front of the viewer is a bright, juicy landscape, recreated by a strong and life-giving rain.
Judging by the clouds, the storm was serious. The water washed away from the grass all the signs of long heat and drought. Greedily absorbed in moisture, the fields exploded in bright green under the rays of the evening sun. Dark and sinister clouds are still full of thunder, but the elements are already retreating to revive other places. A small hamlet on a high hill is neat and cozy.
Contrasts of work create the atmosphere of lightness and aroma that has come after the rain. The silence and peace of the illuminated part of the work are contrasted with the riot of the elements in the heavens. The complex movement of the clouds, intense and strong, no longer frightens the viewer. His looks are chained to the sunny bright part of the landscape.
Overgrown with reeds, the banks of a small river, ravaged by rain, create an additional cosiness and a “sound” series of paintings. The viewer “hears”, feels, feels what he sees. The picture is undoubtedly from nature. Despite the use of bright, clean and very contrasting tones, the landscape looks very real. The accuracy of the lines, the inner harmony of the picture makes it one of the most expressive in the work of the master.
