Two poodles by Pierre Bonnard

In many of Bonnar’s paintings there are cats and dogs, which the artist loved very much. Most often, pets are secondary characters. So, a curious cat in “Checkered Blouse” helps the artist to fully reveal the image of her mistress and at the same time enhance the decorative sound of the picture. The cat that appears in the “Celebrant Woman” emphasizes the sensuality, intimacy of the depicted scene. In short, most animals from Bonnar are called to “finish the impression.” But sometimes the artist wrote funny skits, where the actors were only animals. An example is the pretty picture “Two poodles”. It is “collected” by the artist from two sketches made by him from his poodle. Poodle Bonnard “split” and turned into a fun-playing dog.
