The late Gatchina views of Seeds Shchedrin are the highest achievement of Russian monumental decorative landscape painting. With great coloristic craftsmanship, they combine a soft, finely designed range of warm tones. Large masses of fluffy trees in the foreground determine the picture plane and successfully emphasize the verticality of the entire composition. Real architecture depicted with a lyrical feeling no less than in the interpretation of nature, communicates to these decorative landscapes concreteness a certain corner of the Gatchina Park.
Figures of riders and strolling ladies and gentlemen not only revitalize the canvas, but also serve as necessary color accents. Calm, clear attitude, idyllic landscape also harmonize with the decorative purpose of these panels.
A series of Gatchina species, to which this landscape belongs, ordered Pavel Shchedrin patronizing him, and she was to decorate the halls of the Mikhailovsky Castle. Received from the Palace of the Museum in Gatchina in 1931.
