Still Life with Fried Eggs by Paula Modersohn-Becker

Still Life with Fried Eggs by Paula Modersohn Becker

“Still life with scrambled eggs” unbearably bright. The paints are exaggerated to the limit. But this excessive brightness of omelette softens the cold lilac background.

Perhaps it was an overcast day, and the artist wanted the sun. Even the lemon does not shine, it has faded to ocher dark shades. The contours of the black griddle cast a contrasting shadow.

In the foreground is a carafe of cold water and an empty glass. It seems everything is ready for breakfast, but there is no bread, no knife with a fork, no tea, no coffee.

This does not mean that the plot is incomplete. Everything will come when it’s breakfast time. And now is the time of hard work, the time of searching for artistic solutions. They are always different, in every still-life they are different, but her style is present and this is the main thing.
