While a talented artist is forced to work as a day-laborer in order to earn his living by elementary bread, he will certainly pay attention to how smartly the still-lifes are sold, as the rich gentlemen willingly snap up the works of this genre. Well, they can be understood: it is relatively inexpensive, and on flowers and greens, as you know, the eyes relax, and the nerves that are worn down calm down. Of course, the hobby of a still-life is temporary and many then pass. But the artist has the opportunity, as they say, to fill his hand, gain necessary technical experience, so that he can dare to turn to more serious topics, motives and plots.
The richest still-life was painted by English artist John Wenraith in 1866. On it there are so-called. primroses – hence, spring is in full swing. Where more luxurious camellias and lilies are aristocratic flowers, symbolizing purity and innocence. Is it not by chance that two boys-cupids are depicted on the outside of the vase in which the bouquet is located, for the child of all peoples also symbolizes these two qualities.
