Resurrection by Descent into Hell

Resurrection by Descent into Hell

A rare iconographic feature of the monument is the elevated left hand of Christ, in which he holds a scroll. Only the prophets in the face of Christ are represented in the halos, which is also infrequent.

Stylistic localization of the icon is difficult. It belongs to the number of those rare works of the 16th century, in which the high quality of performance is combined with the extreme forms of expressing the expressive tendencies of art of that time.

The acuity of external expression, the attention of the master to graphic elements of style allow you to connect the work with the art of the Russian North-West. However, she does not find similar analogies in the art of Novgorod, Pskov or Tver.

The paints of the icon, especially the brown ones, have analogies in the painting of Vologda in the 16th century, but its coloristic structure as a whole is difficult to recognize as exclusively Vologda. It is especially close to the works of the 1560s. It has artistic, scientific and cultural-historical significance. Unconditional museum value.
