Portraits of their loved ones Repin created all his life. Especially often the artist wrote his first wife, Vera, and children. Several times Repin posed his brother Vasily, professionally engaged in music.
Most of these portraits are made in a free manner, but there are in the heritage of the painter and strict works of this genre. About a dozen self-portraits of Repin reached us. Together, they represent a kind of “chronicle” of the artist’s life.
