In July 1930 g. Picasso buys in Normandy, 63 km from Paris, castle Buazhelu , where in 1930-1936 often works. There he creates numerous paintings and sculptural images of Maria Theresa.
The picture was painted in one day, 8 March 1932, in preparation for a large Picasso exhibition on the occasion of his 50th birthday. The year before, there was an exhibition of Matisse , with whom Picasso’s lifelong competed.
In addition to this work, in the years 1930-1932 Picasso painted several paintings with Marie-Therese, who have been recognized as masterpieces not only the period of surrealism, but also all of his work. The period of his most sensual and forbidden love is reflected in velkolepnyh canvases.
