Moonlit Night on the River by Lev Kamenev

Moonlit Night on the River by Lev Kamenev

In his painting “Moonlit Night on the River” Kamenev LL depicts a large river, which is so wide that one might think that it is a sea. The painted landscape brings romantic thoughts, and looking at the picture, I want to dream and admire the moon sky. The whole work is performed mainly in dark colors. The author was able to very clearly and believably portray a night using a color palette.

Silence… Only a slight splash of waves and crackling of chips in the fire are heard. Several boats moored on the bank of the river, and sweetly dozing, rocking from a light breeze. Sails, in which there is no need at night, are lowered.

Between the boats sailor sits, and prepares himself a late supper at the stake. From the fire comes a thin trickle of translucent white smoke. Not far from the shore, a boat with fishermen is passing by. In the distance, here and there, there are lights. If you look closely, you can see in the darkness the hill on which the city or village is located.

Everything is submerged in the gloom… The yellow light of the night moon glides easily along the dark waters of the river. The sky is shrouded in numerous clouds that have thickened around the moon. There is a feeling that the clouds want to hide forever the moon, and to deprive the sailors of night illumination. But, she still struggles with all her might, as if flaring up brighter and brighter. A small cloud still managed to cover a little the center of the moonlight, but it’s not for long. Soon the wind will drive a small cloud, and the moon will again shine in all its glory.
