Caillebotte already in the early works introduces a still life as an important composition element of the scenes in the interiors, but in the early eighties a series of paintings appeared devoted exclusively to this genre of painting popular with the impressionists.
Still life “Melon and Vase with dates” – one of the most outstanding achievements of Caillebotte in this field. Fine work of the brush is combined with relaxed handling of materials and color handling. The picturesque interpretation of the texture of objects looks free-etude.
