The painting “The Madonna and Child under the Apple Tree” was written by the master of the northern renaissance Lucas Cranach the Elder in the 1920s during the heyday of his talent. The size of the artist’s painting 53 x 42 cm, canvas, oil; maybe the picture was cropped.
The German artist Lucas Cranach portrayed Madonna as a charming earthly woman with a baby in her arms, located in an apple orchard. In order to emphasize the role of the Mother of God as the keeper of light and the joy of the world, the artist placed the virgin Virgin Mary and the baby on a high mountain, enhancing the perspective with a distant landscape at the foot of the mountains.
Both the Madonna and the baby Jesus carefully look at the viewer from the picture, as if letting us know that they already know the fate they are prepared for and they are ready to accept it without a shadow of a doubt. The view of the Mother of God is touched with sorrow, tenderness and quiet sorrow – she knows that she must lose her son and regain it in heaven.
