The model for the painting “The Lady with an Umbrella Turning to the Left” served as Susanna Goshede, who became Monet’s foster daughter after he married her mother, Alice, in 1892.
The artist painted a picture of the one that Suzanna turned to the right in, and ten years earlier he painted a similar picture with his first wife, Camilla.
Of these three paintings, “The Lady with an Umbrella, Turning to the Left” turned out to be the most successful. It is characterized by a spectacular pose, a distinct image, an energetic manner of writing. In short, this is the real Monet at his best.
