Hands of the worshiper by Albrecht Durer

Perhaps the most famous drawing of Durer is “The Hands of the Prayer,” 1508. It is executed with a brush and ink on a blue paper and is an etude to the altar image ordered by the artist Frankfurt merchant Jacob Geller.

Dürer drew his own hands and used the reflection in his own left hand for the image of his right hand. Initially, on the same sheet of paper was a sketch of the apostle’s head. The drawings were divided later.
