Before the storm by Isaac Levitan

Before the storm by Isaac Levitan

After the death of Levitan, the painting was defined by the artist’s brother as a sketch. However, the attentive viewer can see in this composition a completely finished work, which was completed as planned. Levitan creates a feeling of light and air currents curling over the ground.

Subsequently, a similar motif – a huge cloud over the plain – is used by Nicholas Roerich, bringing into it a philosophical sound and symbolist interpretation of the form. Levitan turned this motive into one of the forms of in-depth comprehension of nature and the laws of interaction of all its elements.
