Acis and Galatea by Claude Lorrain

Another famous picture of Lorrain is “Acis. And Galatea.” This canvas is currently stored in the Dresden Gallery.

The work is written in the classical style, which requires compliance with severity, division of space into a number of plans, in the picture the proportions are carefully verified, the tree compositions frame the picture on both sides, like a backstage or frame.

Claude Lorrain is one of the leading figures in the French painting of the era of classicism. Lorrain worked exclusively in the landscape genre. Many representatives of the Bologna Academy tried to master the landscape as an independent trend in art, but only Lorrain managed to fully achieve this.
