One of the favorite themes of Russian landscape painters is the Crimea and the Black Sea coast with their exotic nature. From the north to the south there is a steppe and only the coast of the Black Sea is occupied by a strip of Crimean mountains.
The inhabitants of these places are descendants of many peoples who once inhabited the peninsula. They lead a sedentary way of life along river banks in small villages, hidden by rich vegetation. The village of Kokoz has often attracted the attention of Russian artists with its picturesque location in the mountains: numerous etudes of these places have remained.
Unlike other artists, Welz writes a large canvas in the traditions of the academic species school, emphasizing the epic nature of nature, drawing a special splendor and picturesque sonority of the autumn nature of the Crimean foothills. Subtly noted household items do not interfere with the main thing – the sense of antiquity of the land depicted here and the mighty mountains.
