In the elongated format, the main story is skilfully inscribed, supplemented by the episode of Daniel’s visit by the prophet Avvakum.
The composition is completed by the image of Christ Emmanuel in the heavens. The images of Daniel in the lion’s trench were characteristic of the side doors of the Russian iconostasis of the 16th – 17th centuries. Currently, such works are rare.
The icon is executed in a light, free manner; with a special elegance, the figure of Daniel is drawn and, as it were, running up to the sky. The creative freedom of the icon painter in dealing with the artistic heritage of the turn of the 16th – 17th centuries testifies to the chronological closeness of the monument to this period. The icon can be dated the first third of the XVII century. Its localization is difficult.
The rarity and artistic merits of the monument make it a museum value.
