The Parable of the Rich and Poor Lazarus by Jacopo Bassano

The Parable of the Rich and Poor Lazarus by Jacopo Bassano

The execution of this work is so realistic that some researchers proposed to redirect its authorship to one of the masters of the XVII century. But the realism of this picture is surreal.

The viewer does not understand what is the connection between a poor man whose wounds are licked by dogs and sitting so close to him with well-dressed people. It seems that the action of the parable is transferred to some strange place where spatial laws do not work.
