The protagonist of the picture is traditional – a worker who is not bent here, but straightens and actually ascends to heaven. Above the peculiar metamorphoses of the transforming city, he peers into the distance, into the bright future.
The worker is somewhat gigantized, and, in general, the advanced class is represented at the time of its revolutionary transformation. At the same time, a primitive peasant archetype is imposed on the ruins of the city, it is not a hymn to a new era of workers and not a glorification of industrialization. Rather, this picture is an artist’s vision of contemporary society, a reflection of the idea of the “cathedral of socialism”, often raised in the literary manifestos and architectural utopias of the time.
In the picture, the symbolic symbols of the theme of the proletariat were reflected, first of all – human hands as an instrument of creation, transformation of the world. Human figures, pensive faces, eyes are also different. Buildings and architectural fragments are represented as the “atoms” of the new proletarian world. Numerous spirals, piercing the picture, can be identified with the embodiment of the idea of development.
