The earth is beautiful, sad and lonely. “Spring” – Millet’s latest work. Full of life and love for nature, shining bright colors after the rain, it is finished shortly before the artist’s death. Millet never painted from life. He loved to walk in the woods and make small sketches, and then from memory he reproduced his favorite motif.
The artist selected colors for his paintings, seeking not only to reliably reproduce the landscape, but also to achieve harmony of color. Picturesque craftsmanship, the desire to show village life without embellishment put Jean-François Millet on a par with barbizons and realistic artists who worked in the second half of the 19th century.
