In the painting “The Serpent” German artist Gerhard Richter depicted a giant boa slowly penetrating the dwelling.
The picture has an allegorical meaning; according to the biblical texts, it was the serpent who appeared in paradise to Adam and Eve for the purpose of temptation. According to Richter, an ordinary apartment of ordinary people may well become a place of demonic temptation.
Painting by Gerhard Richter is very diverse. The artist works with amazing ease in the field of photorealism and hyperrealism, creates abstract paintings in the style of Wassily Kandinsky, readily paints sea and rural landscapes, and also works in the technique of pop art.
