On this semicircular mural in the general space are depicted two scenes, separated by architectural elements. The first martyr for Christ, archdeacon Stefan, was one of the seventy apostles elected by the apostle Peter to help the poor and preach Christianity. He took martyrdom in about the year 35 of the new era.
It is curious that one of his tormentors was Saul – later became an apostle Paul, a light and a pillar of Christianity. Since St. Stephen received deaconess from the most holy Peter, the first pope and governor of God on earth, his image was especially close to Pope Nicholas V, who strove to emphasize the deity of the origin of his authority. The plot of the picture is the sermon of St. Stephen, with whom he addresses both ordinary citizens and members of the Sanhedrin.
