Nikita Akinfievich, distinguished by his love of science and patronized scientists and artists. He published the Journal of Traveling in Other Lands, in which there are many correct comments pointing to the author’s wide observation.
Consisted in correspondence with Voltaire; in 1779, he established a medal prize for success in mechanics at the Academy of Arts. His brother, Prokofy Demidov, was known for his eccentricities, which surprised not only Petersburg and Moscow, but also Europe, was one of the most significant public philanthropists.
