Levitsky Grigory Kirillovich, the father of the painter, was born in the village of Mayachki, Poltava region, in the family of a priest. He studied in Poland and graduated from the Kiev Theological Academy as a clergyman. From 1738 – clergyman, but, possessing artistic abilities, a talented artist, known at one time an engraver, in 1752-1757 performed engravings for spiritual books. He worked as an editor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra print house. He instilled in his son a love of art. He died in the village of Mayachki.
